Permissions & Governance

Options:

  • Approve member posts: Member posts enter an approval queue
  • Open posting (default): All members post immediately
“Only admins can post” and “Approve member posts” are mutually exclusive.
Global toggle for allowing comments on community stories.
  • Enabled: All active stories accept member comments
  • Disabled: No stories within the community accept comments
Granular per‑story comment locking is not currently supported.
Define default push behavior for new community activity:
  • Default: Notifications ON for all members (may opt out)
  • Silent: Notifications OFF & cannot be enabled by members
  • Subscribe: Notifications OFF by default; members may opt in
Use Silent for low-noise hubs or archive‑style communities.
Editable fields:
  • Avatar (brand & recognition)
  • Name & Description (≤180 chars recommended)
  • Category (affects discovery grouping)
  • Official Flag (trust / authenticity badge)
  • Visibility: Public vs Private (affects access & join flow)
  • Closure: Permanent removal (non‑recoverable)

Best Practices

  • Batch resolve low‑risk approvals daily
  • Use categories early to avoid later reclassification overhead
  • Maintain naming conventions (e.g., Region • Topic)
  • Standardize moderator notes for actions
  • Start with open posting + approvals for new communities
  • Introduce Only-admin mode for broadcast / compliance spaces
  • Monitor flag ratios: flags per 100 posts as drift indicator
  • Periodically audit moderator role assignments
  • Curate category landing pages with representative communities
  • Highlight official communities for trust signaling
  • Use Subscribe mode for optional-interest clusters
  • Rotate featured categories based on engagement analytics
